Hello, David

Thank you for contacting us.

What applications you've noticed the problem with?

What is the value of the Windows taskbar setting "Combine Taskbar buttons and hide labels" (Taskbar settings > Taskbar behaviors)?

Could you also specify the exact number of your Windows build (type winver in the Search field of the Windows Start menu, press Enter. The window containing the build number will appear).

Hi Bogdan,

I've noticed this with Chrome, Edge, and Slack, as well as other apps. I usually have several (>10) chrome instances running on my right-side monitor, and cannot stop the icons being replicated on my primary (center) monitor's taskbar.

The setting in my Windows Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors > Combine buttons and hide labels is NEVER, as is the similar setting Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels on other taskbars.

Winver = Version 23H2, Build 22632.4460

I tried a work-around :
   - a chrome window is on the right-monitor and its icon is on the right-monitor's taskbar,
   - click on the icon in the center-monitor's taskbar,
   - drag the window to the center-monitor - the icon disappears from the right-side monitor's taskbar and is only on the center-monitor's taskbar,
   - drag the window back to the right-side monitor - the icon disappears from the center-monitor's taskbar and is only on the right-monitor's taskbar,
   - click on the window on the right-monitor - the icon is regenerated on the center-monitor's taskbar.

Similarly, when I launch a new Edge window - the window appears on the left-monitor, but icons are created on both the left-monitor's taskbar and the center-monitor's taskbar.

David,

I was unable to reproduce the problem.

Could you send us your AMM configuration files using the Send to Tech Support tool (AMM configuration module > Tools > Configuration > Send to Tech Support)? Add a link to this topic in the email.

Also please send us a screenshot of your monitors layout either from standard Windows display settings or from AMM configuration module > Multiple Monitors > Monitors Layout and settings.

And also tell what the values of the Scale settings are for each of your monitors (Windows Display Settings > Scale).

Hello, David

Sorry for the delay in replying to you.

I was able to only reproduce a similar problem with the Edge browser. But in my case the problem happens in slightly different manner - the button incorrectly appears on both monitors when I open Edge on the secondary monitor, and it disappears as soon as I move the Edge window to the main monitor and back and doesn't appear there again no matter how many times I switch focus to other windows and back to Edge or click the Edge taskbar button. In very rare occasion the button appeared again on the main monitor but I'm not even sure what action lead to the problem that time - nothing I tried of what I did around that time made the button appear on the main monitor again.

So are you sure you're able to reproduce the problem with Edge every time you move the widnow to the main monitor and back and clicking the window/taskbar button without closing/opening the window?

It's not really clear to me. You wrote:

So, this workaround doesn't really help in your case?

Are Chrome and Slack in your case standard versions of the apps or they're from Microsoft Store (UWP apps)?

Please specify your version of Chrome.

Also specify several other apps you're sure the problem happens with and specify their versions.

Also please tell whether there are applications that never have this problem although you use them on the secondary monitors? What are they? Are they affected by AMM (does the "Move to monitor" hotkey work for them)?

Hi Bogdan,

   thanks for the response.

I see this issue most often (and must frustratingly) in Chrome.
The scenario: I have three monitors (left, center/primary, right).

I almost always have 10+ Chrome instances (and icons) on my right screen.

The behavior I described in the previous posts is always reproducible on the Chrome windows:
   - when the window is on the right screen, the icon will be on both the right and the primary taskbars
   - if I drag the window to the primary screen, the icon is only on the primary taskbar
   - if I drag the window back to the right screen, the icon is only on the right taskbar
   - when I click on the window, the icon now appears on both the right and primary taskbars

I use Edge much less than Chrome, but I just did the same thing to reproduce the issue:
   - I am looking at this webpage in an Edge window on my left screen
   - the icon is on both left and primary taskbar
   - I drag the window to the primary screen, now the icon is only on the primary taskbar
   - I drag the window back to the left monitor, now the icon is only on the left taskbar
   - Click into any other window - then click on the Edge window, now the icon appears on both the left and primary taskbar

Thanks for continuing to look into this. It is very frustrating and makes my taskbars pretty much unusable.

  In answer to your questions:
  - Are Chrome and Slack in your case standard versions of the apps or they're from Microsoft Store (UWP apps)?
  Yes, standard downloadable apps.

  - Please specify your version of Chrome.
  Version 131.0.6778.86 (Official Build) (64-bit)

  - Also specify several other apps you're sure the problem happens with and specify their versions.
Slack - although this is the Slack app, not a webpage - it always has the same behavior as described above.
Outlook - Outlook app, not O365 page - same behavior as above.
Photoshop - installed app - same behavior as above.
Visual Studio Code - installed app - same behavior as above.
AMM Configuration dialog - same behavior as above.

  - Also please tell whether there are applications that never have this problem although you use them on the secondary monitors?
  I have not found any.

  - Are they affected by AMM (does the "Move to monitor" hotkey work for them)?
Using the "Move to monitor" hotkey doesn't change anything - same as dragging.

Thanks for continuing to look into this. It is very frustrating and makes my taskbars pretty much unusable.

David,

What edition of Windows 11 you're running (Pro, Enterprise etc.)? You can find this information in the System section of Windows settings (right click to "This PC" icon > Properties).

Also please specify the version of Edge you're running.

Are you runnning any third-party system/taskbar enhancement applications?

Could you see whether the problem still persists if you change the Scale settings for all monitors to 100%, log off the system, then log on and try to reproduce the problem?

Could you also leave only the right external monitor physically connected, log off/log on the system, and see whether the problem happens the same exactly way you've described it in the previous message both with Chrome and with Edge?

Please see the attached Settings>About screenshot for system configuration answers.

The behavior is exactly the same for only one attached monitor.

Microsoft Edge Version 131.0.2903.70 (Official build) (64-bit).

Scale settings - only the laptop display is not 100% - all external monitors are set at Scale=100%.

I am beginning to think that maybe I need to just uninstall AMM, cancel the subscription, and go with vanilla Windows 11. I can get the icons to show only on the correct monitor using Windows 11 taskbar features and disabling AMM. I lose the ability to drag the icons on the taskbars into the order I prefer, but that's better than having them all crowding the primary taskbar.
