Hello, ron

What version of VLC player are you running?

Ron,

I was unable to confirm the described behavior in Windows 7: for me, VLC always plays a new video file in background without even becoming active. This made me think, that there is some option in VLC which can change this, but i was unable to find it. Can you recall setting an option which could have changed this behavior?

Hmmm, I'm seeing the same thing on Win7 today too.  I guess that's good, since I'd expect this specific behavior to be the same on 7/10.  But the other day, Win7 was working as I described.  Maybe a quirk in VLC.  I did notice that when changing some settings there you had to exit/restart before they took effect.

But of all the options presented in VLC, I could find no options in that would bring it to front when it was already running and 'play' was instantiated.  Their always on top option behaves as you'd expect but that prevents you from alt-tab back to file manager to fire the next video.

You do have the send to bottom on startup, so I was hoping for a bring to top on startup.  On startup should be easy, but I'm not sure if there's any message you can catch that would let you know when to bring it to front.  On focus won't work because playing subsequent videos just starts them - the window does not get focus.

I guess the developers that build VLC all have dual monitors and it's not an issue :-)

After a brief inspection...

VLC started - video playing - alt-tab back to file manager.

Double click another video - video starts playing with VLC remaining in the background.

That's the scenario.  I'm not sure how AWM does much of it's magic with apps, but the only messages I could see being sent to VLC when the 2nd video was started were WM_SETTEXT & GETTEXT.

Ron,

We'll consider your request.

Maybe it's possible to implement option to send to top on some event, which also could bring the VLC player to front.

Best regards.

Just to make sure my first paragraph didn't confuse things.  I'm still looking/hoping for a solution on Win10.  Since there's a send to bottom option, why can't there be a bring to top option?
