On my system (Windows 10 Professional, 64 bit) either of the two tools breaks Task View/ Timeline if they are auto started immediately after logon. But if I set a delayed start for 30 seconds (less would probably also work) everything is back to normal.

Versions:
Actual Window Menu: 8.13
Actual Virtual Desktops: 8.13

The issue started as soon as the Timeline feature was introduced with Windows build 17134.48 but only recently if found time (and was in the mood) for troubleshooting it. By disabling all auto starting applications and enabling them again one by one I was able to narrow down the possible culprits to these two applications.

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for contacting Actual Tools Support Service.

Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce the issue. Could you send us your configuration files from both Actual Window Menu and Actual Virtual Desktops with a link to this thread (Configuration module -> Tools -> Configuration -> Send to Tech Support) and specify what exactly happens when you try to open Task View / Timeline?

You can download the files here: https://eu.storagemadeeasy.com/folders/a8e21cf5f81f68abcd5bb377a96a0ded

The password is 1234  ;) and the files are available for 30 days.

What happens is that the first time I click on the Task View button (or invoke Task View by pressing Windows + tab) a darkened, empty desktop appears instead of an overview over my desktops and the Timeline. Every successive click on the Task View button does nothing at all.

Has anybody looked into this so far?

Hello, oeci

We're still unable to reproduce the problem, but we'll look further into this problem and will try to reproduce it for some more time. We will post here about the results.

Best regards.

Thanks for replying. Another way how I can provoke the error is to manually restart explorer.exe while Actual Window Menu or Actual Virtual Desktops is/ are running.

oeci,

We have managed to reproduce the problem, but not exactly as you describe. Altough there is obviously a problem. We'll try to fix it and will post in this topic when it's fixed.

Thank you for this information, it may be very helpful.

Could you name the exact number of your Windows build (type winver in the Search field of the Windows Start menu, press Enter. The window containing the build number will appear).

Best regards.

I'm glad to notify you that the subject issue has been fixed in the latest version of Actual Virtual Desktops 8.13.1 and our other products as well.

Best regards.

Thanks :) Apparently it seems to work. I will observe the behavior and report back.
