Hi - I'm seeing that running UltraEdit (x64 version) while AWM is running (even if it's paused or has an exclusion for UltraEdit) causes UltraEdit to consume ~16% of my CPU.  As soon as I stop AWM, CPU usage drops to normal for the uedit64.exe process.  I contacted their support team and after some back and forth they said that they've seen this happen to their app before with other programs that add buttons to the title bar, but that they don't know what code those apps are calling so they don't know how to fix it.  I'm a paying user of both pieces of software, so it would be an AWESOME story if you guys could team up to figure out what's going on here.  I can provide you their information and they've already said they would be happy to work with you on a fix.

Interestingly enough, if I bring up a modal dialog in their app so that it steals focus, CPU drops to normal (like the About screen under their Help menu).  But as soon as I close the dialog, CPU usage jumps back up.

Please let me know if you think this is something you could help address and if there's any more information I can provide to help.  Thanks in advance!

- Jeremy

PS: This is on Windows 7 Enterprise x64.  I can check Windows 8.1 x64 tonight if it will help.
Version of UltraEdit is v23.20.0.40, 64 bit.

Jeremy,

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, it would be great if you could check the issue on another machine/system and confirm it's not local to your current Win7 system.

Thank you.

So on my Windows 8 machine I first had AWM 8.8.3 installed.  CPU usage in UltraEdit was normal in version 23.10.0.3, so I upgraded to 23.20.0.40.  This yielded the same normal CPU result.  Next, I upgraded AWM to 8.9.2 like on my Windows 7 machine, and sure enough, reproduced the same behavior (it's a different CPU, so on this machine it's pegged at 12% rather that 16%, but the effect is the same).  So something seems to have changed between 8.8.3 and 8.9.2 that's causing this negative interaction.

I can revert to 8.8.3 to avoid this problem as a temporary workaround, but at least now we have something to go on! :)

I'm seeing exactly the same issue with UltraEdit. It takes 100% of one CPU core if Actual Window Manager is running.

It doesn't stop if I exclude UltraEdit program completely from Actual Window Manager. It stops if I minimize UltraEdit into system tray (it has an option to minimize in tray).

Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on AMD Athlon II X3.
Version of UltraEdit is v23.20.0.40, 64 bit. It also happened with older version of UltraEdit.

I encounter the same issue with UltraEdit and Actual Multiple Monitors. Pausing AMM doens't fix it, quiting does.

Running Windows 10 version 1607 on Intel i5-3320M
Version of UltraEdit 23.20.0.40 (x64) and AMM version 8.9.2

Hi just checking in - it's been a few months and at least one version of AWM has come out since this was reported.  Any idea when we'll get a fix?  Thanks!

I'm also running UltraEdit 23.20.0.43 and having the same problem with AWM. 100% usage of 1 CPU core by UE unless I *close* AWM completely. Just upgraded AWM to latest v8.10 and problem remains. Running Windows7 Ultimate x64 Intel Q9450 CPU. Any progress being made on this issue?

Thanks
Ed
