This problem has plagued me for longer than I care to remember. It relates specifically to 2 of my MAGIX apps namely MAGIX Music Maker 2015 and MAGIX Video Pro X6. If Actual Windows Manager is active and I try to launch either of these programs they will start up but never open. The splash screen stalls and I have to force quit. As soon as I stop Actual Windows Manager they both open with no problems. I've reported these issues to support in the past and have been informed there will be a fix but still nothing therefore I am posting on the forum. All you need to do is download the demo of either of these apps and try running them with Actual Windows Manager active and you will see the problem.

Regards
Martin

@Martin

As a quick fix add both programs to the "Exclusions" rules and at least you can continue to use both applications with AWM. However, you will not have AWM functionality on either of those applications.

I've encountered this as well, but with other applications. IMO this is directly related to how Default Settings is implemented. I suspect the splash screen is the source of the problem with AWM's Default Settings causing it to hang. There are many combinations which cause this, however, one of the most common is having Title Buttons defined as Default Settings.

What are your thoughts/Did this help until you get official technical support response?

Sincerely,
Lars

Hi Lars,

I tried adding an exclusion for video pro X6 but it doesn't really help. The problem is it gets stuck at the part "loading keyboard shortcuts". See video :

Here's the exception setting in AWM :

Martin,

When either "halt" can you use AWM and the "<- LEFT CLICK HERE" or the "Sel ect Window fr om List" to create an Exception?

Sincerely,
Lars

I tried that. When they halted I opened the options and dragged the icon from AWM to the to window to create exceptions but upon restart they both still halted. I will try again.

Martin,

Add the following Exception:

checked Window caption = "\z" with Regular expression selected (no double quotes \z)
checked Program (with blank program name)

(save the file name with a jpg extension to view, for some reason images haven't worked on the forum for a few weeks).

Does that resolve the problem?

Sincerely,
Lars

Hi Lars,

Thanks for your continued help. Unfortunately your suggestion didn't work. Although I've made some progress.

Running both MAGIX apps as administrator solves the problem. However this means that AWM is ineffectual due to being run as non-administrator (no title buttons). However if I run AWM as administrator as well the title buttons appear but both apps stall like before. I then tested running both AWM and Magix Apps as administrator plus your switch and it disables the title buttons but both programs stall. Anyway I have a partial solution in that providing I run both of the MAGIX programs as administrator and AWM without administrative rights. I no longer have the stalling problem. Although I miss out on the title buttons.

Regards
Martin

Hi Martin,

Try unchecking/disabling AWM Default Settings. I'm 99.99% sure "Default Settings" is the source of the problem. If required, I'd backup your configuration settings, then uncheck/disable Default Settings, including removing ALL settings under Default Settings and see if this resolves the problem. Further, if you have a "Specific Setting" rule for those apps, uncheck those rules too. This should remove ALL AWM window effects from those two applications.

You can always restore your configuration settings so you don't waste anymore time than necessary.

I hope this helps further track down the location of the cause. If so it will help the developers quickly target a solution for you.

UPDATE: If at all possible I'd never execute any application with Administrative rights unless you have no choice.

Sincerely,
Lars

So I unticked default settings and unticked all settings pertaining to the default setting > Index. I then ran Video Pro X as non-administrator and it still stalled at the same place. Same problem again with MAGIX music maker as well. The only way I can get it to run is by right clicking on the AWM notification area icon and choosing "stop". Which was what I was having to do before posting here and since.

Strangely enough my 2 other MAGIX programs Samplitude Pro X and Sequoia have never had any problems with AWM. It just seems to be Video Pro X and MAGIX Music Maker. Personally I think the only solution is for the your developers to download the 30 day trials of both programs and test it on their system. You can get them here :

MAGIX Video Pro X6
MAGIX Music Maker 2015 Premium
