My primary problem is with the Start button, sounds similar to https://www.actualtools.com/forum/read.php?FID=10&TID=8305&MID=28144#message28144, which did not get a reply.

I am running Windows 10 x64, with 2 monitors, and was running a 5+ year old version of AMM without any trouble.  I recently upgraded video cards which required new drivers, and started having problems with AMM.  Powering off the monitors would move all the running programs to the one powered off last, and when powering the monitors back on, AMM would move programs to the correct monitor and would frequently hang/crash explorer.exe so I have to logout to get things back.

So I purchased a new license in December and upgraded to AMM 8.15.3, so I have the following config:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 (x64)
OS Version: 10.0.19045.6456, station (x64)
Actual Tools Program Name: Actual Multiple Monitors
Actual Tools Program Version: 8.15.3
Conflicting Program Name:
Conflicting Program Version:

The latest version only partially solves the crash problem (happens every few days rather than almost every day) and introduced a new problem with the Start button.  I have the Start button on both monitors.  If I remember to only press the Start button on Monitor 1, things work as expected.  However if I press the Monitor 2 start button, nothing happens; then if I press the Monitor 1 Start button, the Start menu shows up on Monitor 2, sometimes immediately and sometimes needing a few tries.  I've tried to reset the taskbar configuration, nothing helps.

There is also a new more minor bug with Quicken where both taskbars have an entry for Quicken, and many sub windows come up on the wrong monitor.  I've deleted Quicken from the AMM config, and reconfigured it, which made no difference at all.

Is the configuration supposed to be upwardly compatible to the latest version?  If not, how do I clear out the config and start over?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hello, Ralph

Thank you for contacting us.

when powering the monitors back on, AMM would move programs to the correct monitor and would frequently hang/crash explorer.exe
Do you mean the windows are moved to their correct places because the option "Bind the layout to the desktop geometry" is enabled and the feature is applied to these windows? Could you disable the option and see whether the problem happens in this case (AMM configuration module > Layout and Snap > Windows Layout > Bind the layout...)?

Also, could you enable crash dumps in Windows: create a .txt file and paste the following text in it:
Code
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps]
"DumpType"=dword:00000000
"DumpCount"=dword:00000020
"CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00001225

Change the extension of the file from .txt to .reg and execute the file. Then reproduce the problem where explorer crashes. After this navigate to the CrashDumps folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps), find the most recent crash dump file associated with the crash you've reproduced and send it to support@actualtools.com. Or you can use one of the file hosting services (Dropbox, Google Drive for example) to upload the file and share it with us by providing a link to this file.

I was unable to reproduce the problem. Does it still persist for you?

Are you running any third party taskbar enhancement app/Start menu enhancement app?

Could you send us your AMM configuration files using the Send to Tech Support tool (AMM configuration module > Tools > Configuration > Send to Tech Support)? Add a link to this topic in the email.

What version of Quicken are you running?

Yes, there should be no problems with using a configuration from your previous version in the latest versions.
