MS Word Window title bar shows up when editing messages in Outlook 07. I unload AWM and it doesn't happen anymore. This happens even if I "exclude" Outlook.

Outlook 2007 only allows you too use Word as the editor in Outlook messages. I think what is happening is that when it opens a "hidden" Word window AWM is showing it and adding buttons.

It is quite annoying.

Dear Vince,

Please send us your AWM configuration files (via Main Menu->Send to the Tech Support).

Additionally, what version of AWM are you currently using?

I am running 4.5. I can't send config because when I try that I get an unknown exception error (see attachment). I have tried clean installs and such to no avail.

I've tried this Outlook issue on 3 different machines (2 laptops running XP SP2 and 1 desktop running Vista Ultimate).

Vince,

Please send the configuration manually to: support@actualtools.com. The required files are stored at: %appdata%\Actual Tools\Actual Window Manager

Please try this. Open Outlook 2007 (with or without Office 2007 SP1 ... happens under both). Create a new e-mail message. Now do NOT close the new e-mail message. With the new e-mail message still open in its window create ANOTHER new e-mail message. You will see a Word title bar show up on your screen and Outlook will behave badly. It does it with appointments/meeting requests as well. I will have a meeting request open (in its own window) and try to create a new one and poof I see this weird Word title bar show up on the screen and one of my meeting requests will get hosed.

It seems to be because Outlook 2007 uses Word as its editor and you cannot change that like you could in previous versions. That's why I never saw it before O2007. I can recreate it on several different PCs with and without O2007 SP1. If I unload AWM the problem does not happen. I'm running XP Pro SP2 BTW. I've tried it on a clean machine with just Office installed as well.

Vince,

Thanks for the report.

Please send us the screenshots of what happens at each stage. You can e-mail them to us at:  support@actualtools.com, if you wish. Thanks in advance.

Anyone else seeing this still? It comes and goes but I have turned logging on to see if that helps (not sure where the logs are) and I can send my config again.

I have basically told AWM to exclude everythign Word or Outlook related and still get these weird title bars popping up when editing rich text messages in Outlook.

I was so frustrated I started looking for other apps like AWM to do what I want (mainly align, resize, etc) and you guys just have the only apparent product out there. No one else has anything like this from what I can see.  :)

Vince,

Please send us the file %appdata%\Actual Tools\Actual Window Manager\EventLog.ini. First of all reproduce the problem and then send us the file.

OK. I think I may have found the culprit (at least I'm hoping). I had gone through a complete clean install of Windows XP (SP2) and AWM and then started adding other tools like Office 2007.

I didn't have the problem until I installed True Launch Bar. I have NO idea why TLB would cause extra windows to pop-up with AWM running. Turning off TLB OR AWM causes the problem to go away.

I've been running without TLB for about two weeks and have not seen the problem again.
