Process Explorer 11.04

Whenever I use the Window Finder tool in AWM (either in the Exclusions section or in the Specific settings / Target Window section), Process Explorer 11.04 crashes:

I realize this may very well be a bug in Process Explorer, and there may be nothing you can do.  But since Process Explorer is (nominally) a Microsoft application and is extremely popular, I thought I would mention it.  I will not be reporting it to Mark Russinovich, because his responsiveness has gone into the toilet since Microsoft hired him.

The bug confirmed, thanks for pointing to it. We will try to find the way to fix it.

 This still happens with AWM 5.0 beta 5.  Is it something you can fix?  Or should I/we be asking Sysinternals to look into it?

 Hi Scott,

I've checked this issue myself and have to say that it only happens with newer versions of Process Explorer. Currently I don't remember the exact number of old version (it was about 5.x or 7.x) but that version works well both with beta 3 and beta 5. Thus, I suppose the root is in PE code, and we should contact Sysinternals team. I suggest to do it together: you will write a letter from user's point of view and we'll contact them as developer colleagues.

Sorry for this but analyzing a binary made by Sysinternals is a tough task for us...  :oops:

Below is a message I received from molotov at Sysinternals re: the PE crash with AWM. He would like a video screen capture of the actions taken to produce the crash in PE. However, I am currently experiencing a problem with my Intellipoint crashing whenever I use the window finder tool, which would probably confuse molotov.

Would you like to create this video capture and send it on to molotov? I have found the RapidShare.com service very efficient and convenient for posting files for others to download. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

This is precisely the environment that I am testing under as well, and am unable to cause Process Explorer to crash.  Perhaps you can somehow do a screencast / screenrecording, and upload it somewhere?  There may be some subtlety in the instructions that I'm not picking up on.  I've been over and through them at least a dozen times and cannot cause the reported behavior.

 Hi Nick,

I've just read through the thread in the SysInternals forum, and I think I understood why molotov could not reproduce the error - this error only occurs, when the "Hide Config while using Window Finder" option is turned on in the User Interface Options.

Could you please post this observation to the SysInternals forum? I'd post a message myself, but unfortunately I could not register on their forum :(

Update:
I've finally managed to register on the forum, and posted a report there.

 Just a note for those readers who don't plan to visit the Sysinternals forum: the bug is fixed. The fix will be available in the release version.
