I just noticed that the 'Copy Settings From' button may be ambiguous. It's not a problem with the developer's English, it's an English language problem. I raise it because I misunderstood the purpose of the button.

Should the button be 'Copy Settings From' or 'Copy Settings To'. The action of the user is to sel ect an object (a window rule) and then click on 'Copy Settings From'. I took this to mean copy settings from the window rule I had selected. The dialog instructs the user to 'sel ect rule to copy settings from'. This confused me as I thought that was done by the initial selection and my rule was not in the list! I was then expecting another dialog box asking which rule to copy the settings to. But no, no further dialogs. Oh, I misunderstood this command. :-)

I can now see that 'Copy Settings Fr om' is equally correct. Bloody English language. I've tried to think of another descriptor that would not be ambiguous but I can't. Anyone? The only solution I have come up with is to change the function of the button and the button name. Here's my suggestion:

* Change functionality to: Copy the settings of the selected window rule and apply them to the rule that the user selects fr om a list of rules.
* Change the button name to 'Copy Settings'.

Good luck chaps!

Hello, Greg

We'll consider your request, and probably will come up with the name for this action which users won't be able to misinterpret.

Best regards.

Hi Bogdan,

I had a thought this morning. How about "Import Settings". It avoids the the use of "to" and "from' that was causing the  ambiguity.

Hello, Greg

We think that "Import Settings" name doesn't tell clearly enough about the feature meaning.

Best regards.

That's probably my best suggestion. The popup does explain it but a short succinct label is still required.

How about 'Make Similar To'?

It is not a common function and so there are not really any other examples to borrow from.

Good luck.

Greg,

This is driving me nuts and I can't believe I can't find it. Believe it or not, I actually know a lot about PCs and the applications they run. So here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing.  I'm wondering if somehow I just don't have the option?  However, it's probably right under my nose.

It's right under your nose :-), but don't feel bad about it. It's amongst a set of options you probably never use. Click on Specific Settings under Window Settings.

My Actual Tools opens straight to Specific Settings but yours clearly doesn't. I'm to blame too, I assumed everyone's AWM opened straight to Specific Settings.
